Snow removal: who does what and at what cost?

Winter is well and truly here and the press reminded us this morning that residents – owners and tenants alike – are responsible for clearing snow from their doorstep /sidewalk over a width of 1 m in front of their building. They can be sued by any passer-by who might slip, fall and injure themselves.

This is then one of the clauses that can be added to lease contracts when the tenant is responsible for snow removal. When the rental is in a residence, the property management company in charge has often established a salting and snow removal contract with the specialised company. It is then up to the owner to check how much this service costs and how it is priced, on a fixed price basis or per intervention. This expense item can be expensive even in winters without snow!
